On Thursday, June 3, Oregon Coast Community College’s Equity and Inclusion Committee will host a Pride event featuring art from the OCCC community. According to Kimberly Puttman, organizer of the event, “It is part of our ongoing effort to tell the stories of all of our students, creating an environment at OCCC in which everyone can belong.” She continued, “Everyone will learn more about the unique creativity, contributions and experiences of LBGTQIA+ folks.”
“It gives us an opportunity to have Pride— pride in our various gender identities and sexual orientations, and pride in our school and community. Finally, we get to come together in person, to build community in this time of COVID.” There will be options to attend both virtually and in-person, and all attendees will have the opportunity to view submitted art, writing, poetry and more.
Puttman also pointed out that the Equity and Inclusion Committee is also looking for new student members! This group will be meeting throughout the summer, and is looking for students who want to make an impact in social justice, diversity and inclusion.
Free registration is open now! Additionally, the deadline to submit art has been extended, and all forms will be accepted until the end of Tuesday, June 1. Please submit art to firstname.lastname@example.org, or bring it in-person to Student Services, on the Newport OCCC campus.
